ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The nonprofit planning a maritime museum on Alexandria's waterfront aims to buy the Tall Ship Providence and its pier next month and to open the museum at 1 Prince St. in 2030, according to a presentation to the city's Waterfront Commission on Tuesday.

The 12-slide deck from the United States Maritime Foundation, titled "Capital & Civic Partnership Proposal," lays out a two-phase plan under the heading "One museum. Two phases." It includes no cost estimates, fundraising totals or financing details. The cover is marked "Confidential | Preliminary."

The commission's agenda listed the item as "Overview of the Proposed US Maritime Museum," presented by Marion Smith, the foundation's president and CEO. The commission met at 7:30 a.m. at the Lee Center. The Alexandria Brief did not attend the meeting and has no account of the discussion. The Brief sent questions to the foundation Wednesday and will update this story with any response.
