ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Nearly 45% of Alexandria's active registered voters had cast a ballot by 10 a.m. Tuesday, counting early and mail ballots, according to figures from the city's Office of Voter Registration and Elections.

In the first four hours after polls opened at 6 a.m., 11,271 people voted at their polling places. Added to the 34,417 who had voted early or returned a mail ballot as of Sunday, that's 45,688 of the city's 102,451 active voters, or 44.6%. The city was already at about 85% of the 53,465 ballots cast in Alexandria in the 2022 midterm election, according to official results from the Virginia Department of Elections.

The office plans to release another count at noon, Director of Elections Angela Turner said in an email.
