ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Fund for Alexandria's Child will host a family-friendly retro arcade night Thursday to raise money for local children in foster care and children at risk of abuse and neglect.
The fundraiser runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Continues Arcade Bar and Restaurant, 1050 N. Fayette St. The evening will feature classic '80s and '90s video games, a live DJ, a photo booth, small bites, drinks and custom mocktails.
The fund works with city family services staff to cover children's immediate needs, such as groceries, clothing and safe beds, and to pay for experiences like sports, art lessons, school trips and summer camp.
"Some requests are urgent. Others give a child the chance to do something their friends are doing," said Eva Hartman, chair of the fund's advisory council. "Both matter, and this is one way Alexandria can help."
The Goodhart Group is the event's top sponsor at the $5,000 level. Other sponsors include Alexandria Toyota and Curcio Law. Sponsorships at the $2,500, $1,500 and $500 levels are still available and can be arranged through Christine Levine, the fund's coordinator, at christine.levine@alexandriava.gov or 703-746-5663.
The fund is based in the city's child welfare services offices at 4850 Mark Center Drive.
Adult tickets, for ages 18 and up, include game tokens, two drink tickets for beer, wine or mocktails, and food. Child and teen tickets, for ages 3 to 17, include tokens, two mocktail tickets, kid-friendly drinks and food. Foster and resource parents and Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services staff can buy tickets at special pricing.
