ALEXANDRIA, Va. — One driver was critically injured and another suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that closed Richmond Highway at East Reed Avenue on Sunday afternoon, Alexandria police said.

A vehicle rolled over in the crash. Police said the driver of one vehicle was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and the driver of the other was taken with minor injuries. No one else was in either vehicle.

Police first reported the closure at 4:01 p.m. It was still closed as of 6:09 p.m., said Tracy Walker, the department's strategic communications manager.

Drivers should avoid the intersection and use alternate routes.

The crash happened in Potomac Yard, just south of Four Mile Run and the Arlington line, near the shopping center on the east side of the highway.
