ALEXANDRIA, Va. — U.S. Sen. Mark Warner told a standing-room-only crowd at Port City Brewing on Monday night, the eve of Election Day, that it was "literally my last political event ever as a candidate."

"It's been literally the honor of my lifetime to serve Virginia as governor, as senator, also one time as a failed candidate," Warner, D-Va., said.

Warner, an Alexandria resident who was governor from 2002 to 2006 and has been in the Senate since 2008, is seeking a fourth term against Republican Bert Mizusawa, a retired Army major general. Warner has said it would be his last term if reelected, as previously reported by The Brief. More than 200 people packed the brewery on Wheeler Avenue for what his campaign billed in an advisory as the final rally of his reelection campaign. Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Rep. James Walkinshaw and Rep. Don Beyer spoke before him.
