ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A volunteer traffic safety group's study of the most serious pedestrian and bicycle crashes on Route 7 recommends that field reviews begin in two places: Bailey's Crossroads and Skyline, and an area around Beauregard Street, King Street and Glen Forest that reaches from Fairfax County into Alexandria's West End.

Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets analyzed 59 crashes from 2017 through June 2026 in which a pedestrian or bicyclist was killed or seriously injured, using police-reported records from Virginia's Traffic Records Electronic Data System. Eleven of the crashes were fatal. Ten of the 11 fatal crashes happened in darkness.

The 78-page report, published Oct. 29 and prepared by Nicole Brager, focuses on the stretch from Seven Corners to Beauregard Street, which it describes as the planned route of a new bus rapid transit line. The group released a summary of its findings Nov. 2 and posted the report on its website alongside earlier analyses of Fairfax County and Northern Virginia crash data.
