ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Yellow Line trains will not run into the District for the Monday morning commute after a track vehicle derailed during weekend maintenance, Metro says.
Trains are operating only between Huntington and Arlington Cemetery through this afternoon while crews address the derailment and finish the weekend track work, according to a Metro service alert posted at 11:25 p.m. Sunday.
Metro is advising Yellow Line riders to use Blue Line trains to continue their trips. Shuttle buses are also running between Pentagon, at bus bay L7, and L'Enfant Plaza, at Seventh Street and Maryland Avenue SW.
For Alexandria riders, that means Yellow Line trains from Huntington, Eisenhower Avenue, King Street-Old Town, Braddock Road and Potomac Yard will not cross the Potomac on their usual route. Riders heading into the District will need to switch to the Blue Line or take a shuttle from Pentagon.
The Yellow Line was shut down Saturday and Sunday for what Metro described as bridge and track rehabilitation. It is scheduled to close again this coming weekend, Sept. 26 and 27. On Wednesday, Yellow and Blue line trains will single-track between Reagan National Airport and Pentagon City from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Metro did not say what caused the derailment or whether anyone was hurt.
