ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Yellow Line service will be shut down the next two weekends for bridge and track rehabilitation, Metro says.
No Yellow Line trains will run Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20, or Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27. No stations will close.
Blue Line trains will alternate their destination between Franconia-Springfield and Huntington, so all stations keep service. Transfers will not be available at the Pentagon station.
Alexandria's Metro stations are on the Blue and Yellow lines: King Street-Old Town, Braddock Road, Eisenhower Avenue, Van Dorn Street and Potomac Yard.
There is more track work the following Wednesday. On Sept. 23, Yellow and Blue line trains will single-track between Reagan National Airport and Pentagon City from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. while crews destress the rails, work Metro says helps prevent heat kinks in high temperatures.
The work is part of what Metro describes as a shift to preventive maintenance and planned capital work, using overnight and weekend hours for cable testing, trackbed cleaning, switch maintenance and rail alignment. The agency says its schedule can change because of weather and construction delays.
