1️⃣ Freedom House Reopens
About 100 people gathered Saturday at the Freedom House Museum for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of a 16-month exterior restoration project.
The work returned the building at 1315 Duke Street to its pre-Civil War appearance. The structure served as headquarters for Franklin and Armfield’s slave trading business from 1828 to 1861.
Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley, and Council members Canek Aguirre, R. Kirk McPike, Jacinta Greene, and John Chapman, along with City Manager James Parajon, attended the ceremony under clear skies and 67-degree temperatures.

2️⃣ Flooding in ALX
The city will present flood modeling results and gather public input on flooding impacts at a community meeting on Monday at Patrick Henry Recreation Center.
The 7 to 8:30 p.m. meeting will include findings from the Flood Resilience Plan, a community vulnerability assessment, and resident survey feedback. The meeting will also be available via Zoom.

3️⃣ Titans fall on Friday night
The Alexandria City High School Titans fell to South County 24-17 on Friday night, closing out their regular season with a 6-4 record.
The loss was the Titans’ second straight after dropping a 35-0 decision to West Springfield on Halloween. Alexandria City finished 3-4 in District 4 play, fourth in the final standings.

4️⃣ Affordable rentals
The City of Alexandria will present early design plans for infrastructure stabilization measures along Taylor Run at a community meeting on Nov. 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Charles Houston Recreation Center Multipurpose Room, 901 Wythe Street.
Project team members will present project goals, planned improvements, 30% design plans, potential construction impacts, and the preliminary project schedule. A public question-and-answer period will follow.

5️⃣ Coming up for City Council
The Alexandria City Council will address budget planning and transportation issues during its legislative meeting on Wednesday.
The council will consider establishing guidance for the FY 2027 budget and adopting the process for developing the operating budget and 10-year capital improvement program. City Manager James Parajon will deliver an oral report on the state of the economy.
Transportation items on the agenda include a resolution to update fares for the city’s paratransit service and a vehicle lease agreement for paratransit operations. First readings are scheduled for ordinances addressing taxicab regulations
