Good morning, Alexandria.

Today is the day the police department said its 61 Flock license plate readers would stop reading. As of 6:30 a.m., neither the city’s license plate reader page nor the department’s Flock transparency portal had been updated to say so; the department told council it would audit the system Monday to confirm. I’ll be checking both through the day and will report what I find. One caveat worth repeating: the shutoff covers the police department’s cameras only. The Sheriff’s Office’s two cameras at the jail, Northern Virginia Community College’s, and the readers run by businesses, apartment buildings, and homeowners associations around the city stay on, under their own policies.

Halloween eve: sunny and 75 degrees, with gusts to 23 mph this morning. The city’s four rec center parties start at 6:30, Lee-Fendall’s lantern tours at 7, and Poe closes at The Lyceum at 8. At 5 p.m., an ad hoc group of residents gathers at the Hume Street entrance to Mount Jefferson Park in response to the anti-immigrant graffiti found there last week. Early voting is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the registrar’s office and 1 to 5 p.m. at Beatley; tomorrow is the last day. And the Titans close the regular season tonight at West Springfield.

Here’s what you need to know for Friday, Oct. 30.
