ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Twenty-six homes closed in Alexandria between Sept. 17 and Sept. 23, ranging from a $173,000 one-bedroom at Pavilion on the Park on Holmes Run Parkway to a $2.8 million penthouse at The Residences at TideLock in Old Town North, according to data from Redfin.

The average sale price was $714,769, and the median was $664,500, across an average of 1,578 square feet, or a blended $503 per square foot.

The 26 homes were originally listed at a combined $19,284,696 and sold for $18,583,999, or 96.4% of original list — down from 99.2% last week. Five sold above their original asking price, three sold at it, and 18 sold below. The sales landed against a backdrop of rising prices and falling volume: Alexandria's median sale price rose 9.1% in August to $752,500 while the number of homes sold fell 28.6%, the second-steepest drop among regional jurisdictions, according to Northern Virginia Association of Realtors data.

The week told two very different stories.
