Good morning, Alexandria.
It’s a proper fall Saturday: mostly sunny, near 60 degrees, with a northwest wind gusting to 25 mph, so the farmers market is a jacket-and-hat trip. Two housekeeping notes before you head out. Duncan Library closed this morning for roof repairs and won’t reopen until Nov. 17; your holds are moving to Barrett. And the Titans’ home finale got away from them, 41-14 to South County.
The day runs from serious to seasonal. City Council opens budget season at 9 a.m. with a retreat at Del Pepper, public and on Zoom. The city’s fall Community Cookout is 1 to 4 p.m. at 2425 Mill Road, free food and 50-plus agencies at the tables. Pumpkin Rescue starts at the Old Town and Del Ray markets this morning and moves west and north tomorrow. If you want to speak at Tuesday’s School Board hearing on the capital plan, sign up by noon tomorrow. And tomorrow afternoon is the last look at “Now or Never” at Waterfront Park, 1 to 4 p.m., with yard-sign versions to take home while they last.
One more thing. I asked yesterday what a paid membership should come with, and the replies are still coming in, thoughtful and candid, including more than a few that said “just keep reporting.” Thank you. I’ll share what I heard once I’ve read them all. Reply or email anytime; it’s the best part of this job.
Here’s what you need to know for Saturday, Nov. 7.
