I-395 southbound to face nightly lane closures from Shirlington Circle to Duke Street through mid-June

ALEXANDRIA, Va - Drivers heading south on Interstate 395 should expect overnight delays starting Sunday and continuing into mid-June, as the Virginia Department of Transportation begins a paving project between Shirlington Circle and Duke Street.

Crews will close lanes Sunday nights through Thursday nights between Exit 6 at Shirlington Circle and Exit 3 at Duke Street/Route 236, weather permitting, VDOT said.

A single lane will close at 9:30 p.m., followed by a second lane at 10 p.m. From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., as many as three lanes will be shut down for the bulk of the overnight work.

Surface preparation work, including joint repairs and patching, is expected to take the first three weeks of the project. Milling and paving are scheduled for the final three weeks.

VDOT is urging drivers to plan ahead and seek alternate routes during the closures. Real-time traffic and work zone information is available at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the free 511Virginia mobile app, or by dialing 511 from anywhere in the state.
